To start, think about your perfect wedding day from beginning to end. What does it include? Look through bridal magazines for ideas to get you started. Look for dress, hair and makeup styles but also look for flowers, decorations and don’t forget the groom!

It doesn’t matter what type of wedding you’re planning, finding the perfect dress for your big day can be a big challenge. Brides today have much more opportunity to make their own choices. Even Princess Catherine chose her own dress and didn’t she look beautiful?

Following the trends of the season will keep you looking good and up to date. Vintage, retro-inspired weddings can be given a modern twist. Think of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wed-ding, with Kate in a gorgeous modern take on the classic romantic wedding dress. Vintage wedding dresses can include a princess ball gown style dress with luxurious textures in delicate lace, vintage beading and embroidery in creamy antique white, pale grey, sage green and buttermilk yellow. Wearing estate jewellery, pearls, hair combs and tiaras completes this look.

The modern bride is wearing more of a modern sleek and chic style. Think short and sweet, and look for a less traditional style such as shorter cocktail strapless or one shoulder dress. Dresses can be white to get the effect of the ‘little white dress’ or you can try one of the new brighter colours of the season. Add a pair of plat-form pumps and you will make the perfect modern bride. Instead of a big veil, try a fascinator or a flower on the side of your hair.

The hottest colour stories for Spring 2011 are tropical brights or sunwashed pastels. Pink or hot pink looks newest when mixed with greens such as apple green, celadon, pine green and jade. Coral, salmon, tangerine and terracotta mix beautifully with turquoise or gold accessories. Lilac, lavender, violet, mauve and purple are a gorgeous combination. Classic colours include red, navy, emerald, burgundy and sunshine yellow.

No matter what your natural colouring is, there are colours that will look best on you. To find the perfect shade for your dress have a look at your skin tone. If you have a golden tone then you will look better in a softer and creamier white as well as warmer golden shades such as coral and peach. If you are pinky then you can wear a pure white or champagne plus pinks, blues, taupe and grey.

Remember your wedding photos of your bridal party will include your groom, bridesmaids, flower girls and parents. Select colours that work for everyone and also work well together. One of the latest trends in weddings is having your bridesmaid pick out her own dress to wear. This works wonderfully as the bridesmaid will get to wear her dress after the wedding. Just select the colour and let her do the rest. A lovely look is to have each bridesmaid wear her own style in varying shades of the same colour. The grooms and best men can also wear these colours in a tie or a waistcoat. Then your wedding photos will look amazing!

Tradition Meets Culture

It's been quite some time that we haven't wrote anything for our readers. It's been really really busy last month as many brides here loved to get wed before year's end. A year gone by, and here we are again to share with you wedding stories. "Utterly Engaged", one of our favorite online wedding magazine, features stories of weddings in many different cultures in its latest issue. Anna and Israel met in the US while Anna, a Swedish exchange student born in Brazil, spend her year as a exchange student. They fell in love and decided to get married years later. Their wedding was set on a summer house laid at a beautiful coast at Sweden, the place where Anna and Israel spend most of their time in Sweden. On their wedding, they follow a couple of Swedish wedding traditions. One of them is all female guests must get in line to kiss the groom when the bride goes to the bathroom and vice versa. So while Anna was in the bathroom, a few hairy "women" (men) got in line to kiss Israel... Another tradition is the newly wed had to stand up and kiss on the chairs, which they did many times throughout their dinners.

When two peoples are stepping towards a new phase of their life, it's natural for couples to incorporate traditions into their weddings. Bill and Giang were married in a traditional Vietnamese and Chinese ceremony. Giang worn a traditional red Vietnamese dress with a train that gave it a modern touch. They followed the traditions with ring ceremony at Giang's parent's house and then moved to Bill's parent's house for a tea ceremony to symbolically welcome the bride's family. Both places were decorated with symbols of good luck and double happiness. And of course, their bridesmaid and groomsmen all dressed in colourful traditional dresses as well!

A truly classic, elegant theme for a wedding is gold and white. Using white as a wedding theme, accented with gold, creates a truly romantic backdrop for a wedding ceremony or reception. White is a clean color, without distraction, allowing the focus of the event to be on romance shared between the bride and groom. White candles create a luminescent glow throughout the entire reception space, adding to the romance of a white and gold themed wedding.

Wedding theme - Something Blue...

Why blue? Blue is once a popular color in ancient Rome, where brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true." until Queen Victoria broke the tradition of royals marrying in Silver and wore a white wedding dress, and now most brides wear white wedding dress.  Apart from that, heavier and darker shades of blue are not very much suited to the joyous atmosphere in wedding. But some lighter version of blue are nonetheless perfect to light up the wedding and are in fact, very chic as well like aqua blue or tiffany blue.

緊接著我們上一次談及婚紗設計師對生態的關注，今日我們想講的婚禮主題顏色就是綠色。雖然綠色不是一個婚禮的傳統顏色，(尤其是中國文化中，紅色才是婚禮的顏色...)，許多新娘都喜愛綠色！綠色有許多深淺不同的色系，例如薄荷綠，橄欖綠，翡翠等等...其實我們都很喜歡綠色！妳知道我們的標誌也是綠色的嗎?

Following our last thread on eco wedding dress, we would like to talk about the color - green, as a wedding theme. Yet this time, we will focus more on the color itself. Though not a traditionally popular color for wedding, especially among chinese culture where red is the color for wedding, green is being loved by brides! There are many shades of green, mint, lime, emerald and more... and We love green too! as you can see our logo is in green!

In the middle of the color spectrum, green matches well with both rainbow extremes: rich reds, burgundies, and pinks as well as lilacs, violets, and royal purple hues. Choosing just the right green shade for a wedding is more than just picking a pretty color, however. First, the exact shade of green should coordinate with the season. Light, airy hues such as pastel green or mint are perfect for spring weddings, while summer celebrations are best paired with brighter, bold shades or green patterns. Fall weddings can easily be accented with sage or darker green hues, while winter weddings are perfect for jewel tones such as a luxurious emerald.

The green you choose should also be coordinated with the theme of the wedding and its location. Informal, casual ceremonies are better suited to light, playful shades, while more formal events demand more somber colors. When choosing green as a primary wedding color rather than an occasional accent, many couples opt to use a range of green shades for a coordinated yet not overpowering palette. 相信大家都看到的上一次關於紅色婚禮的文章，你一定不會驚訝，今次我將會介紹紫色作為主題婚禮顏色，因為喺我哋非正式的統計內，紫色可能係最受歡迎的顏色！For those of you who had read our earlier thread on red wedding theme, it should make no surprises to you that the color that come next to red when we talk about wedding theme colors, purple is on the top of the list!

Wedding theme - Colors - RED <紅色婚禮>

第一次講婚禮嘅主題顏色，作為中國人，就講紅色先啦。當我睇翻父母結婚時影的相，幾乎所有嘢都係紅色：媽媽的裙褂係紅色、佢嘅繡花鞋係紅色、個背景係係紅色、檯布係紅色、連啲襟花都係紅色！係。。。如果好似以前咁樣所有嘢都係紅色，的確係太out啦！但係如果你識得mix & match其他顏色，紅色絕對可以帶出婚禮嘅喜悅！

This is our first blog about colours in wedding, and as a chinese, we will talk about the most common colour in chinese weddings - Red. When I see pictures of wedding of my parents, things are all in red: my mother's chinese wedding dress is red, her shoes is red, the backdrop is red, and table cloth is red, even the paper boutonniere is red! Yes, it's seems old fashioned for us to get everything in red, yet, if you can arrange it well and combine with other colour, red is the colour that can bring out the cheerful, vibrant side of the bride and groom.

Red is an extremely strong, passionate color. As a stimulant, red is the hottest of the warm colors can make your blood boil or your passion ignite. Because of this, small doses of red is more pleasing than large amounts of this strong color. Multiple shades of red and even pink or orange can combine for a cheerful palette. In China, red is the color of happiness, prosperity and good luck. In some cultures, Red denotes purity, joy and celebration. Furthermore, it's a wonderful color for Christmas and Valentine weddings. For fall, select a deeper shade of red such as burgundy.

By combining red with other colors, red can add a touch of vibrance and joy to your wedding. Cool blues provide contrast and tone down the heat of red. Light pinks and yellows are harmonizing colors that can work well with red if not too close in value such as dark red with a pale or golden yellow. Be careful using purple, it can be an elegant combination too!
